Sept 26, day after transplant, sent Sept. 27
Kerry Jean had her donor’s marrow infused through her chest catheter last night from 7 to 11 p.m. It was good for us to have Rusty and Raymond join the three of us. They kept the atmosphere lively, but Kerry Jean felt progressively worse as the hours progressed. The marrow is thick and must be hard for the heart to pump as her blood pressure rose and brought accompanying headaches. Ron stayed with her the rest of the night (and received an A-plus rating from his patient) while I went to a friend’s home and laundered our hospital apparel. I relieved Ron and he left Columbus during the OSU game, so both of us avoided game traffic. It was a rough night, and the next week or so might be a roller coaster. And she still is very susceptible to infections.
But we are over another step. Tonight she didn’t feel like talking or watching TV, but was content with my reading cards and scriptures sent by all of her well-wishers. She may be in God’s arms, but your prayer support and kind words are His way of holding her.
Since the Lord is directing our steps, why try to understand everything that happens along the way? Prov. 20:24 The Living Bible
Some info about Kerry Jean Oct. 20
Thanks for caring about Kerry Jean. We are so excited that her cell counts are up, so we thought we could come home and celebrate. But we found at clinic today that she is still subject to infection, her energy is very low and graft vs. host disease could hit, so we have to stay near the hospital.
She and I are living in Westerville at my friends’ home ( Joe and Fran List). Fran loves to cook but Kerry Jean looks at food more than eats it. I knew this part of her recovery would be rough, and it is! Before going to the hospital she weighed 132; now she at 118. The doc says she is doing well, however, most transplant patients lose even more weight. It is just more of an obstacle with KJ because she didn’t have any excess to lose! If you’re looking for an effective diet, try a bone marrow transplant!
We are rounding third base and heading for home, thanks to your care and support.
With much love, Mom, Nellda
